Tomorrow's Kids
Future focused research and innovation
We are working on bold, transformative research to create a future where cancer treatments are more effective, more targeted and less harmful.
By harnessing world-leading discovery tools, including our unique paediatric preclinical models and cutting-edge technologies, we aim to develop treatments that will change outcomes for children not yet diagnosed, in WA and around the world.
This will predominantly be achieved through our focus in 2 key areas: identifying synergistic treatment combinations and developing therapies for surgery.

Combination Treatments
We are developing new ways of curing cancers by combining therapies that work better together.
When treatments synergise, it means they work powerfully together to kill the cancer. We aim to identify treatments that synergise so we can deliver better survival rates, fewer long-term side effects and the best possible quality of life for children.
10-year vision:
Kids will have access to novel, safe, and effective synergistic treatments to increase survival rates and that may allow us to reduce toxicities associated with chemotherapies and radiotherapies in the future.
Therapies for Surgery
Surgery is the oldest treatment for cancer, and for many children with solid cancers, it is the most important. Yet surprisingly little is known about what happens in the body after a tumour is removed – and how the body's healing response can shape whether cancer comes back. We are mapping this response in detail, and using what we learn to develop new therapies that can be given during surgery itself to stop cancer from returning.
10-year vision:
Kids will have access to world-first perioperative cancer treatments – significantly reducing the chance of cancer returning after surgery.
