Our "why"
The Western Australian Comprehensive Kids Cancer Centre is part of a new era of childhood cancer research, one focused on holistic, whole of life care.

Every child with cancer deserves to dream beyond their diagnosis. Our vision is to create a future where children not only overcome cancer, but live healthy, full lives with dignity and fewer long‑term impacts.
The Western Australian Comprehensive Kids Cancer Centre is redefining how childhood cancer is approached and understood. By uniting world‑class research at The Kids Research Institute Australia and The University of Western Australia with leading clinical care at Perth Children’s Hospital, we are bridging the gap between discovery and delivery.
Researchers and clinicians work side by side, sharing data, insights and expertise in a seamless two‑way loop. Discoveries made in the lab can translate into real‑world treatments, while insights from children in the clinic continually guide and remain central to our research priorities.
Supported by the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation and Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation, the Centre represents a new model of integrated childhood cancer care. We exist to transform possibilities into progress – delivering safer, smarter and more effective treatments for children today, while building the future of childhood cancer care for generations to come.
The Kids Research Institute Australia is one of the largest and most successful medical research institutes in Australia. The Kids have created a bold blueprint that brings together community, researchers, practitioners, policy makers and funders, who share their vision to improve the health and wellbeing of children and their families, through excellence in research. The Kids is an independent and not-for-profit medical research institute, funded through national and international competitive research grants, coupled with significant philanthropic support from the community and corporate Australia. Founding Director Professor Fiona Stanley AC, Western Australian Governor Chris Dawson AC APM and Mrs Darrilyn Dawson serve as Patrons of The Kids.
Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) is WA’s only specialist paediatric hospital and trauma centre. PCH provides medical care to children and adolescents 15 years of age or under. The Stan Perron Charitable Foundation is a Western Australian philanthropic organisation established in 1978 by Stan Perron AC. The Foundation supports a broad range of charitable causes and health and medical research initiatives, with a strong focus on improving the health and wellbeing of Western Australian children and families, particularly those experiencing disadvantage.
Guided by the legacy of its founder, the Foundation takes a considered, long-term approach to giving, providing funding through grants and strategic initiatives that respond to demonstrated community need and create meaningful, lasting impact. Funding is directed across community organisations, research institutions and not-for-profit partners, with an emphasis on prevention, early intervention and collaboration.
The Foundation is chaired by Elizabeth Perron AM and governed by an independent Board of Directors, continuing Stan Perron’s legacy of generous and purposeful giving to benefit the Western Australian community.
Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation is the specialist children’s healthcare charity at Perth Children’s Hospital. We fuel the fight on the frontline, to help sick children get well and stay well. By working closely with those on the frontline, the Foundation has an in-depth understanding of what clinicians, researchers and families need to ensure we make a tangible impact where it counts most.
This knowledge guides the solutions we fund, ensuring sick children have access to world-class care through the most advanced equipment and technology, research, expertise and positive patient experiences.
