Our structure
Lab-clinic integration
The Western Australian Comprehensive Kids Cancer Centre is built on a simple but powerful idea: the best outcomes for children happen when research and care work as one.
Our Centre brings laboratory scientists and clinical teams together in a continuous, two‑way partnership. Discoveries made in the lab can be turned into clinical trials, while insights from children and families in the clinic directly shape research priorities.
By working side by side, clinicians and scientists can create new approaches to childhood cancer care, supporting children from diagnosis through treatment and supportive care and into long‑term survivorship.
Building on existing excellence
The Centre is built on internationally recognised strengths in both research and clinical care, now united through shared priorities and purpose.
The Kids Research Institute Australia cancer labs
The Kids Research Institute Australia, in collaboration with The University of Western Australia, delivers the Centre’s laboratory research arm - driving discovery, developing new treatment approaches and leading the scientific breakthroughs that underpin the Centre’s themes, milestones and future innovations.
Perth Children’s Hospital Department of Oncology and Haematology
The Department of Paediatric and Adolescent Oncology and Haematology at Perth Children’s Hospital is one of Australia’s leading centres for paediatric cancer care. The team of clinicians, nurses and allied health professionals provide specialist, multidisciplinary treatment for children and adolescents across Western Australia from diagnosis, through treatment and supportive care and into survivorship.
Steering Committee
The WA Comprehensive Kids Cancer Centre Steering Committee is comprised of representatives from each of the Centre’s key partners and funders. The Committee is the primary oversight body of the Centre.
Leadership Team
The WA Comprehensive Kids Cancer Centre Leadership Team comprises the Centre’s Clinical Director, Scientific Director, and General Manager, the Theme Leaders and the Clinical Operations Manager. The Leadership Team reports to the Steering Committee and is responsible for operational delivery of the Centre’s activities.
Advisory Groups
Supporting the Steering Committee and Leadership Team are various Advisory Committees that provide both scientific advice and community perspectives through lived experience, informing research and clinical projects.
The WA Comprehensive Kids Cancer Centre envisions a future where all kids with cancer survive and thrive, through a collaboration integrating the clinical excellence delivered at Perth Children's Hospital and the research expertise of The Kids Research Institute Australia and The University of Western Australia.
The Centre, made possible thanks to support from the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation and Perth Children's Hospital Foundation, is supercharging childhood cancer research and care.
