Today's Kids

The best possible individualised treatments

We are committed to ensuring that every Western Australian child diagnosed with cancer receives world-leading, advanced and personalised treatment close to home. We will offer new treatment options, and support kids and families every step of the way, with the hope of increasing survival and reducing harmful side effects.

Clinical Trials

Every child in WA with cancer deserves access to the latest and most effective treatments without having to travel far from home.

By expanding clinical trial opportunities in WA, we hope children can benefit from breakthrough therapies developed locally and internationally.

This means faster access, higher-quality care and improved outcomes for WA kids – right where they live.

10-year vision:

Every WA child, adolescent and young adult will have access to the world’s best cancer treatments here in WA, including treatments ‘home-grown’ from our own lab discoveries resulting in improved outcomes.

Genetic and Cellular Analysis

No two cancers are the same, and neither are the kids who face them.

Using advanced genetic and cellular testing, we tailor treatments to each child’s unique cancer profile.

This personalised approach ensures every WA child receives the therapy most likely to work for them, improving survival rates and reducing treatment-related side effects.

10-year vision:

We aim to see significantly improved outcomes for WA children as a result of new personalised treatments becoming standard of care. We will ensure that every cancer diagnosed in WA kids undergoes comprehensive genetic and cellular analysis to match their unique tumour features with personalised targeted therapies.

Improving First Nations Outcomes

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children face poorer cancer outcomes than their non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peers, and that needs to change.

Through strong partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders and communities, we are working to understand the reasons for these disparities and to develop culturally safe, effective treatments.

Our goal is to empower communities, transform care, improve experiences during treatment and ensure every child has the best chance to thrive after cancer.

10-year vision:

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children with cancer will receive tailored treatment with a culturally sensitive approach to care. We hope to see reduced side effects for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander kids, with survival outcomes comparable to their peers.

Survivorship

Beating cancer is only part of a child’s journey. Many survivors face long-term physical, cognitive, emotional and social challenges that continue well after treatment ends.

By combining world-class research with dedicated survivorship clinics, we support children and their families to thrive after cancer.

Our focus is on developing more effective, less toxic treatments and providing ongoing care that supports each child’s physical health, mental wellbeing and educational needs, helping survivors not just survive, but thrive.

10-year vision:

We hope that WA childhood cancer survivors and their families will thrive, with improved long-term outcomes, holistic patient centred care and measurably lower physical, mental and psychosocial long-term side effects.
